How the Fire Loss Process Works
1. Claim Process
Fire restoration companies always help you open a claim if needed. After a claim has been opened, you will be assigned an adjuster from your insurance company. It’s up to the adjuster to assess the scope of work that will get you back up and running. It’s up to you to find the right fire restoration contractors to take care of this work.
2. Board-Up/Tarping if Needed
Board up and tarping are standard procedures to avoid any further damage from Rain/Storm/Thief's/Animals and more. Most of the time insurance covers this.
3. Testing For Asbestos/Lead
In the state of Colorado, you must get your house/unit/commercial building tested for asbestos. Even if your house was built a day ago. Testing must always be done by a 3rd party contractor. Not the fire restoration company you use to mitigate your house, due to a possible conflict of interest.
4. Your Contents and Valuables
Handling your contents and valuables depends on if your residence is tested clear for asbestos or hot for asbestos. It’s also based on what your homeowner's insurance covers. We always advise you to remove guns/jewelry/high-end valuables yourself when it’s deemed safe.
The fire restoration company will send someone out to work with insurance to get you a dollar value of your contents for anything that they throw out. They will always get your permission first. The asbestos testing company will label anything with asbestos as hot and advise you to toss out everything that cannot be properly cleaned up after a fire. You also will get a dollar value for these items depending on your coverage.
5. Demo and Environmental Mitigation
Everything that needs to be cleaned, cleared, removed sanitized and dried will be done so by certified fire restoration contractors. When tested hot for asbestos, we will need to pull permits with the city to properly mitigate the property. There also tends to be limitations in coverage. So make sure to talk to your trusted Chief Estimator to view your policy and go over everything in great detail. Once its all mitigated it’s a clean canvas for the reconstruction.
6. Complete Reconstruction and Remodeling
This is where our team of skilled craftsmen come in and start rebuilding or repairing your home. Tackling Fire & Smoke Damage in Aurora
All our Denver fire damage restoration contractors are certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and will go to great lengths to ensure your home or commercial building is a safe, healthy environment again.
How long does fire restoration take?
Time frames vary on a few different things.
Is it tested positive for asbestos?
The asbestos abatement/demo company can take 1-7 days to finish and clear your house depending on the size of your property. Pulling permits and supplementing coverages can add 2 weeks to the process.
Having the adjuster assigned and the restoration company that was chosen must come to an agreement on the putback of the house.
The scope should be worked out in your favor before the insurance company approves and gives up the go-ahead on getting your house back up and running. This can take a few weeks to agree on.
Once approved, complete reconstruction/electrical/HVAC/framing/code upgrades etc. can take 3-6 months depending on the size of the loss.
