Mold Removal FAQ

What should I do if I suspect mold is in my home?
Call the experts at FH Water Restoration who will come out to do an assessment and testing to verify the presence of mold.

What happens if mold is found in my home?
If we find mold in your home we will not only properly mitigate it but we will clear it and completely remodel the affected areas.

What are signs of mold in my home?
Here are a few signs that you may have a mold issue requiring mold remediation in your home:

Visible Growth – mold can appear as discoloration, a stain or fuzzy growth. Mold is typically found under your carpet and padding, under furniture, under sink cabinets or on any items that are stored near cold walls (such as in your basement).

Pungent Odor – Mold causes an earthy or musty odor. If you notice this odor persistently in your home, know that even if it is not visible, mold can live behind walls or even wallpaper.

Health Issues – mold can cause multiple health issues that range from eye irritation and nasal stuffiness to more serious health issues such as shortness of breath or extreme fatigue. If you notice any of these symptoms when in your home, and note that they lessen when you are not in your home, you may have mold growth.

Will mold in my house make me sick?
Mold can cause multiple health issues that range from eye irritation and nasal stuffiness to more serious health issues such as shortness of breath or extreme fatigue. If you notice any of these symptoms when in your home and note that they lessen when you are not in your home, you may have mold growth. If you have a mold allergy or your immune system is compromised, you may react more severely.

Where is mold located in my home?
Mold is found both indoors and outdoors and can enter your home through doors, vents, heat and AC systems, windows or vents. It can be located anywhere there is an abundance of moisture and can grow on many different surfaces such as wallpaper, fabrics, paint, wood, paper products, and even upholstery. It can grow around areas where there was a flood or on surfaces where there were windows, roof or pipe leak.

Asbestos Removal FAQ

What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of minerals that are comprised of microscopic fibers.

Why is asbestos considered to be so dangerous?
If you breathe in asbestos fibers, there can be damage to your lungs. Exposure to asbestos has shown to cause a lung condition called asbestosis and may also cause lung cancer.

What are signs of asbestos in my home?
Signs may include:

  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pains
  • Home is built before 1980
  • Home has old floor tiles or ceiling tiles
  • Old roof shingles

Where can asbestos be found?

  • Attic insulation
  • Vinyl floor tiles & floor adhesive
  • Window caulking
  • Window glazing
  • Roof shingles
  • Siding
  • Plaster
  • Stucco
  • Drywall joint filler
  • Popcorn ceilings
  • HVAC duct insulation

Do I have to remove asbestos just because it is there?
Not necessarily. Materials in your home that contain asbestos do not necessarily pose a risk unless you are planning on disturbing the asbestos by say, doing home renovations.

What happens if asbestos is found in my home?

The experts at FH Water Restoration will work with your insurance provider to get insurance coverage for the mitigation process. There are many coverage restrictions; which is why you need a team to fight for you so there are no expenses out of pocket!

What is asbestos abatement?
Our workers will dampen any toxic materials in order to reduce the spread. Any materials that we remove will be contained in bags and disposed of at a toxic waste site.

How does asbestos removal work?

  • We obtain a work permit (if needed).
  • Isolate the work area
  • Our workers are protected by wearing suits and respirators.
  • We safely remove the asbestos materials
  • We clean and sanitize the area by HEPA vacuuming and wet wiping
  • We perform air clearance testing
  • We complete a clearance report for you
  • As soon as it is safe, we advise you it is safe to reenter your home

How soon can you provide my asbestos removal estimate?
Our estimator will come to inspect your property within 24–48 hours of a request.

After you inspect my home, how soon will I receive my estimate?
FH Water Restoration can typically provide you with your written cost estimate within 24 hours.

Is asbestos removal covered by my insurance?
Just because asbestos may be present in your home, this does not pose any significant risks to your health – and as such removal will not be covered. If asbestos is disturbed due to renovations from a DIY project, it is unlikely that insurance will cover abatement. However, if the asbestos has been disturbed due to damages caused by a storm, for example, it is possible that your insurance policy may cover some of the costs.

How can I find out if asbestos mitigation is covered by my insurance?
The experts at FH Water Restoration will focus and thoroughly read your policy coverages on your declaration page with your insurance provider.

Lead Based Paint Removal FAQ

Why be concerned about Lead Based Paint (LBP)?
Homes that were built before 1978 may have lead based paint. Just the fact that there is paint fortified with lead on surfaces in your home does not pose a problem, however if the paint is chipping or cut into – this can cause lead dust that can cause health problems when inhaled. Lead exposure can cause issues such as:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Nerve Disorders
  • Pregnancy Difficulties
  • Birth Defects
  • Digestive Issues
  • Memory Problems
  • Muscle Paint
  • Joint Pain

Children are at greater risk than adults as young children more often will put objects and their hands in their mouths, greatly increasing the risk of ingestion of lead dust. Health issues that can occur include:

  • Brain Damage
  • Behavior Issues
  • Slowed Growth
  • Hearing Problems
  • Headaches
  • Damage to the Nervous System

What can I do to determine if my home contains Lead Based Paint?
Painted surfaces will need testing by trained professionals. We can test and complete a hazard assessment for you, as well as a plan for removal. Call today to schedule your testing today! 720-454-3311
